This hearty and filling oatmeal has just the right sweetness combined with a creamy mouth feel. You will really taste the berries as they compliment the oats so well.
2TArrowroot Powdercan substitute organic cornstarch or omit
3CupOld-fashioned Rolled Oats
3CupFiltered Water
1CupHeavy Cream
1CupWhole Milkcan substitute 2 cups if you do not have cream
1/2tReal Salt
Instructions
Combine berries, sugar, arrowroot powder, and 1 c water in small sauce pot and allow it to simmer gently. This is your flavoring syrup.
Bring 5 cups of remaining water/milk mixture to boil in a separate heavy-bottom pot.
Add Salt.
Once liquid is boiling, carefully add oats.
Turn heat down to medium-low and continue to stir occasionally for about 15 minutes, or until oats are cooked and porridge is as thick as you like it.
Remove from heat and stir in berry syrup.
Ladle into bowls and serve steaming hot with a pat of butter and a handful of remaining fresh berries and nuts as desired.

Other flavoring options:Apple Cinnamon - dice 1-2 granny smith apples. Add to oats while cooking along with 1/2-1c sugar and 2T cinnamon.Maple Walnut - Add 1/2 to 1C sugar to oats while cooking. Chop 1 C walnuts and top bowls of hot oats with a drizzle of maple syrup and walnuts.Fruit & Cream - Replace blueberries with strawberries, bananas, peaches, or your favorite fruit.Brown Sugar & Cinnamon - prepare oats "plain" adding 1/2 to 1C sugar while cooking. When finished, top each bowl with 1T packed brown sugar, 3 dashes of cinnamon, and a pat of butter.
