Local Food for the Farmstead Kitchen: How to Support Local Business

Do you want to do more to support your local economy? Are you already raising and growing some of your own provisions but want to explore other fresh, local options as you prepare food for the farmstead? This was the situation I found myself in as we moved to our new property in lower Alabama.

Trying new recipes and ingredients has always had a certain draw for me so I was eager to dive into the new offerings that the local area might have for my farmstead kitchen. Thankfully, the Alabama Gulf Coast did not disappoint. We were pleased to find local shrimpers, fishermen, and crab trappers that had an abundance of fresh local harvests from the sea.

Eager to try something new and always blessed with an abundance of our own farmstead eggs, my mind went to work. With a few google searches, a trip to my herb garden, a brief scouring of my pantry, and a few tastes and tweaks, we were soon able to enjoy this delicious fresh from the sea snack!

With just a little extra effort we can all find ways to support local business, help keep our communities thriving and nourish our families well!
